POETRY

PREGNANT WITH SORROW

O, my heart,
truth does hurt.
Shackled by your love,
Yet, broken from what I have.
Promises of tomorrow,
Now pregnant with sorrow.

Far we have come,
back will not turn.
What once was my home,
I stand to watch it burn.
Promises of tomorrow,
Now pregnant with sorrow.

How can we call it love,
when my smiles of many years, now turned into tears,
and laughter replaced with fear?
Promises of tomorrow,
Now pregnant with sorrow.

My heart will heal,
but the burden is real.
Tears will flow,
then freedom will follow.
Promises of tomorrow,
Now pregnant with sorrow.
